Anyim as an idea was born the summer of 2009 when a group of women from places as varied as Uganda, Lebanon and Canada met in Gulu, Northern Uganda. Moved by the resilience and strength present in the Acholi community, these women had a wish to partake in the reconstruction of this war-thorn community.

Acknowledging that development is so much more than aid, Anyim contacted a co-operative of women named t "the Hearts of Hope" who creates beautiful jewellery from recycled paper beads.

A partnership was created where Anyim buys jewelry from the women for a fair price and sells it in cities such as Hong Kong, Beirut and Montreal for an even higher price. All the proceeds of these sales are then channelled right back to the community in Gulu trough various educational projects.
